10th World Down Syndrome Congress Social Events
The following social events are being organised as part of the Congress
programme, and can be booked with delegate registration:
Welcome Reception
Date – Thursday 20th August 2009
Venue – The Helix, DCU
Time – 18:30-22:00
The official Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception will be held in the main
Congress venue and is open to all participants free of charge. There will be
entertainment and a buffet meal.
Please indicate your attendance on the registration form.
Cultural Evening
Date – Friday 21st August 2009
Venue – The Helix, DCU
Time – 19:30-22:30
There will be a Cultural Evening held in The Helix venue in DCU on the night of
Friday 21st which will be open to all free of charge. This will consist of
informal performances of music, dance and theatre by Congress attendees and
other groups.
No advance registration is required.
Optional Social Event: The Merryploughboys
Date – Friday 21st August 2009
Venue – The Merry Ploughboys Pub, Rathfarnham
Price - €80 per ticket (includes Full Dinner, Show, Dancing and Coach Transfers)
Time – Coach Departs DCU 6:30pm
The Merry Ploughboys Live in Concert is widely regarded as the best traditional music show in Dublin. The show itself is a highly entertaining performance of live traditional Irish Music, Song and Irish Dancing. From start to finish, this is a show based on fantastic interaction between the performers and the audience. The very best of Irish Food is served.
Tickets are priced at €80 per person and can be booked as part of the online registration process.

Gala Dinner
Date – Saturday 22nd August 2009
Venue – Regency Hotel, Swords Road
Time – 1930-0030
The finale of the Congress will be the official Congress Gala Dinner, to be held at the Regency Hotel. The seated meal will be followed by musical & dance performances, a live dance band and DJ
until late.
Ticket price €70 euro per person. A shuttle bus will run from DCU to the hotel venue.
Optional Social Event: Battle of the Boyne Tour
Date – Sunday 23rd August 2009
Venue – Battle of the Boyne Visitors Centre, Co. Meath
Price - €20 per ticket (includes Tour, Light Lunch and Coach Transfers)
Time – Coach Departs DCU - Time to be confirmed
The Battle of the Boyne was fought on the 1st July 1690 and was a very important battle in Irish, British and European history.
Tickets are priced at €20 per person and can be booked as part of the online registration process.
Additional requests for tours and social events can be facilitated for groups.
